Spennymoor KGH Club

Welcome to the Spennymoor KGH Website

Please use the Contact link at the top of this page to find out about the Club Facilities, Events and Organisations that use the club.

We have several rooms that can be hired for functions, such as weddings, christenings, funerals, anniversaries, parties etc. You can also use the excellent in house buffet catering service for your special event.

The Spennymoor KGH Club is the home of; No.24 Whitworth Encampment and No.65 Spennymoor (S J Slade) Encampment of The Grand United Order of The Knights of The Golden Horn.

There is a Leek Club and a Touring Club operating within the Club. Members of the community also attend meetings of The Spennymoor Branch of The Royal Signals Association and The Spennymoor and Ferryhill Royal Naval Association. More recently a Weight Watchers group now use the Club.

The KGH Club opened in 5 Whitworth Terrace, Spennymoor, in the year of 1923. After speaking to various club members, it seems the property was probably previously a Union Jack Club. The property now occupied by Gordon Fletcher and Sons, was probably the site of the original Drill Hall. Kelly’s Directory of Durham 1929 Spennymoor People, lists the Drill Hall address in Park Parade.

Kelly’s Directory of Durham 1929 Spennymoor People, lists, Fred Cook as Secretary, Robert Millward as Steward and John Moffat as President of the Spennymoor Knights of The Golden Horn Club. Kelly’s Directory of Durham 1934 Spennymoor People, lists, Fred Cook as Secretary, Robert Millward as Steward and Michael Rivers as President of the Spennymoor Knights of The Golden Horn Club.

One of the most important “ Discoveries” made during my research is a register held by the Club that was originally used by The Spennymoor and District National Reserve. (SDNR)  You will be able to view three pages of the register using the links, SDNR, SDNR2 and SDNR3 on the top of this page.
